When should I scatter my Columbine seeds?

When should I scatter my columbine seeds, and how long will they stay good for once I harvest them?

When should I scatter my Columbine seeds?
Early spring after last frost date is good. The seeds are naturally sown by mother plant after flowering and will result in many little babies that can be easily transplanted. So that's an easy way of getting more started. But if you don't have a mother plant, sow them now. And keep soil well watered but not soggy. They prefer part shade. I love columbine, have fun and enjoy them for many years.
Reply:In a beautiful place that you have no memories but spreading those seeds. And then walk away.
Reply:I have Columbines. Every year once the flowers are gone and the seed pods are dry, I break them open and start scattering them around. I have great luck with this method. All of my columbines come in thick and hardy every summer.
Reply:Right after all frost is gone and after you have pulled all the weeds and got the dirt ready for them. They last in a vase 3-4 days.

What were the motives behind the Columbine School Shooting?

What were the motives of the 2 gunmen, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, to kill the people at Columbine high school?

What were the motives behind the Columbine School Shooting?
Sadly, we'll never really know from Harris or Klebold. Their parents to this day aren't talking either....so investigation of mishandling by them is out. Ah, but they have to live with their mistakes, now don't they?

What few high school shooters we manage to capture alive offer some ideas....but in all reality, motives are as different as fingerprints.

How many people died during the Columbine Shooting?

I just read the article about Virginia Tech, but I thought Columbine was the deadliest U.S. campus shooting.

How many people died during the Columbine Shooting?
No, 13 people died in the Columbine shooting, 12 people and 1 teacher. 31 people have now been claimed dead at Virginia Tech, making it worse.
Reply:12 students died in the Columbine shootings. 16 students died in the Texas University shootings in 1966. Today marks the deadliest school shooting in the history of the US.
Reply:203 people..all dead...more to come

What website shows the graphic photos of the victims at Columbine?

I'm going to write a book on what happened in Columbine. Like the story of their lives. I want the graphic pictures of the victims so I can get an idea of how the library looked after they committed suicide. If you can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

What website shows the graphic photos of the victims at Columbine?
I would doubt that those pictures will be found on the web, as they are not suitable, and are too graphic for the web.

Does anyone know where I can find columbine journal documents?

Im trying to find the columbine journal documents from Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold from the Columbine High School Massacre. And I`ve been through alot to find the journal documents but still couldn`t reach them.I really need answers.

Does anyone know where I can find columbine journal documents?
Probably the best place to find copies of what was released from those documents is the 11000 page report that is posted on http://www.boulderdailycamera.com/shooti... in 100 page files. There is an index to the files on the Salon.com website to find specific pages at http://blogs.salon.com/0001137/stories/2...

How do I get columbine to bloom?

I was talked into purchasing some columbine a week ago and I have no experience with it. I have it potted on a south facing, semi shaded balcony. Its got 15 inch shoots and closed buds on it, but now I am wondering how to get the buds to actually open! I thought it would be opening by now. Any suggestions on forcing the blooms?

How do I get columbine to bloom?
Do you have no outside ground to plant it in? Someplace where it gets morning sun, and is shaded by the hot aternoon sun is best. They are easy to grow.

When they're done flowering, and the seed pods have dried, I just take them, and shake the seeds out in places I want new plants to grow next year. They don't take much "fussing".

However, I've never heard of someone growing them in a pot. And I don't know if they would do well there. I'm also wondering if the "closed buds" are actually seed pods rather than flowers (in which case it is actually finished flowering). If those pods dry, and rattle when you shake them, you have seeds. Go shake them on the ground outside. I would also consider planting your plant outside as well, in a mostly-shaded spot - or wherever you want it next year.

Also - they go dormant in the summer. But don't think they're dead - they'll be back next spring.
Reply:water it
Reply:just be patient. It will be worth the wait. Be sure you water it daily, since it is in a south facing pot. Could get too hot for it soon.

When can I relocate my columbine plants?

I have to relocate my columbine plants. They have already been dug up, can I plant them in the fall or do I have to wait until spring? How do I do this that is best for the plant?

When can I relocate my columbine plants?
I would also agree since you have dug them already that you should plant them now. In addition I would recommend adding a root-stimulating fertilizer around the base of each plant after transplanting. Root-N-Grow is one that I reccomend. The idea here is to help avoid transplant shock and to promote root growth through the winter. The top of your plant may go dormant, but the roots are growing! Your plants will have a head start on being re-established going into next year's growing season.
Reply:Replant Columbine between September and March. To keep the plants alive till they can be planted in their permanent position, heel them in. This means storing the plants temporarily by covering or burying their roots with soil to prevent the roots from drying out.
Reply:The above advise is good, but also mulch over them through the winter thickly with leaves then watch for the emerging plants in the spring and then uncover them. they'll do well.
Reply:late fall or early spring is best , I usually wait until spring as soon as they start the new growth , but since you have already dug them up i would go ahead and put them back out and keep them watered well for the next few weeks , hope this helps

How do I germinate columbine seeds?

I have purchased a columbine plant that flowered beautifully and I deliberately let it go to seed. I want to grow new plants, both for my fire escape garden in New York City and for my mother's back yard in the suburbs. I have collected the seeds in an envelope. Now what? Thanks for your help.

How do I germinate columbine seeds?
Mix one-third potting soil, one-third sand, and one-third peat moss, on a humidity tray and keep moist with drainage, do not allow to stand in water, and if possible cover pot or seed tray with plastic wrap, A very good spot to keep the tray or pot is on top of your clothes dryer, for extra humidity.
Reply:I have collected wild columbine seeds from along the road sides here, and merely scattered them over the area I wished to see flower. I collect the seeds when they're black, and their pods have opened, and sow them in the fall, to late fall.

Perhaps store bought columbine seeds would do the same?
Reply:put them in water first u will start to see them grow soon

Why do some young people worship the Columbine killers?

I recently watched a doco on the Columbine killers and remembered how awful a tragedy it was. I then checked out some websites and found young teens or those in their 20's, who seem to worship the Columbine killers on Myspace, Youtube and other sites. Is it a part of teenage rebellion and something they would grow out of, or could there be other mentally ill kids out there who are ticking time bombs? What do you think?

Why do some young people worship the Columbine killers?
i think that its a little of everything. teens whose peers picked and teased, teachers who didn't care, administration who can't help but see everyone as sheep that need to be herded. and kids in a non desirable way expressed that they are not sheep and took action against the establishment.

tragic but sent a powerful message."we will be seen and heard"
Reply:These these little hero worshipers our next killers
Reply:I think their sick little puppies..who need help!
Reply:Kids are not born with a moral compass, they must be given one. Here in the USA with mum and dad working kids get their moral compass from sickos on the net.
Reply:I think Columbine epitomises the state young America is in ..... such a tragedy is seen as heroic by some who feel marginalised in a society that is full of contradiction - religious but carry guns, run by white midde class people for white middle class people.... some feel anger and resentment others glorify it because it is an evil act.

What is the most popular color of the Columbine perennial?

Reply:pink and blue ones are the most popular but i personnally like to be different from others so i have the black barlow and seldom seen yellow in my yard

Columbine?

does anyone know if there were any journals of the columbine killers released in book stores? or any books about it?? please help!!

Columbine?
So far there haven't been any books yet based on the killer's lives. There were a couple of books about two of the victims, though. One is called "She Said Yes: The Unlikely Martyrdom of Cassie Bernall". It's for sale at Amazon. Here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/She-Said-Yes-Unlik...

Another one is "The Journals of Rachel Scott." Also at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Journals-Rachel-Sc...

Also, "Rachel's Tears". Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Rachels-Tears-Spir...

Good luck and happy reading! :-)
Reply:Yes, there's a columbine.site There are diaries and journals there. Plus other things that may be of interest to you.

Whether they've been published in book form, I don't know.
Reply:The full known text of Eric Harris' and Dylan Klebold's diaries hasn't been published in book form but, as the first answerer says, it can be downloaded. The materials released July 2006 contain the majority of their diaries/journals and can be downloaded for free:

Go to Dave Cullen's website at http://www.davecullen.com/columbine/rece...

Look for this line: "Download the PDF file here" And click on the underlined "here." The nearly-1000-page release will download (if your computer is set up to do it automatically) or may simply open in your browser.

If you look around on Cullen's site, you'll find other information about these boys' writings as well as Cullen's opinions about them. The advantage to reading them yourself is that you can reach your own conclusions about who they were, what their motives were, and what to believe and not believe about what they say they think. The disadvantage is that it takes time and neither of them had handwriting that's easy to read.

Their writings suggest that both of these boys were in a lot of emotional pain, as is common for humans their age. So sad that they had the resourcefulness, means, and inclination to do what they did. It's hard not to think when reading their words that a few more months, a year, whatever, would have given them the maturity to realize their options were more numerous than they thought they were.

I came away from reading these materials thinking Eric no longer wanted to live without anyone noticing him and Dylan didn't want to die without anyone noticing. If my take on their motivations is correct, the pseudo-commando attack on the school has a certain logic.

Even so, their act was a terrible waste of human lives, including their own.
