Was the Columbine shooting worse than Virginia Tech's?

Why is it talked more than the VTech massacre?

I thought more people died in the latteR?

Was the Columbine shooting worse than Virginia Tech's?
It was talked about more because

(1) It was in a high school, and teenagers (compared to college students) were killed. That's not to say that teenaged life is more precious than college student life, but it has to do with the unique nature of the relationship between school and children-- primary and high school are supposed to "watch after" kids--largely minors. School officials "knew" about the Trenchcoat Mafia and the bullying and did relatively little. People know that students have more "freedom" and schools have less "responsibility" for older students, and although the acts were horrible and the students nothing more than random victims, there isn't the same sort of paternalistic expectation.

(2) The Columbine shooting was the first serious act of multi-party homicide at a high school. There had previously been shootings on college campuses, so while stil terrible, it wasn't as "unheard of" as it had been in columbine.
Reply:Whenever innocent people are gunned down by a madman it's a tradegy. I don't think we can say one is worse than the other.
Reply:Perhaps because the killers and the victims were younger, mostly. But this is a subjective judgment and depends upon each individual's frame of reference.

Columbine happened longer ago and there's been more time for research, writing, documentaries, etc. Give the Vtech guy time; I'm sure he'll catch up.
Reply:Virginia Tech's death toll was 32 victims plus 1 suicide by the shooter, making 33 dead.

Columbine's death toll was 13 victims plus 2 suicides by the shooters, making 15 dead.
Reply:Both are extremely terrible. Virginia Tech had the higher casualty rate whcih means more families affected and more lives wasted.
Reply:While the Virgina Tech Massacre did have more deaths, The Columbine Shooting was ten times worse in the fact that the affect it had on school systems nationwide was far greater and the age of the students that headed off the murder several years younger. That and the fact that it was a High School not a College. You would think that something like that could never happen at a High School due to heightened security at High Schools. Plus it is more prone to happen in a college, due to stresses and the security, from my experience is much less than the average High School, even shortly after Columbine.
