Do you think bowling for columbine is a good documentary for me to do my essay on?^_^?

Absolutely, As a professor in Sociology I use this video in class to discuss many things. Gun Control, Increased violence in America as compared to other countries, the creation of the "other," Welfare programs in the U.S. And so many other things.

Remember that Michael Moore is trying to make a point. He doesn't fabricate anything, but he doesn't include evrything either.

Nathan do you work with the swift boat veterans? Your argument is weak, for a number of reasons, and I will give you a chance to correct your problems.

If and when I show the movie you mention, which is not "Bowling for Columbine" (the one this discussion is about) I do, most certainly, mention the issue you bring up. But, "Roger and Me" is still a valid film for showing what happens to hard working Americans when they lose a $30 dollar an hour job and are forced to take a minimum wage job instead.

The four points I mention in Bowling for Columbine are issues that we must be aware of, and his discussion about these are very good bases to begin a classroom discussion with. There are some things left out of Bowling for Columbine, and yes even a complete fallacy, but those have nothing to do with what he is saying about the four points I mention.

You stick to your "fair and balanced" Fox news, 80% conservative guests and 20% liberal - fair and balanced you tell me - and I will continue to question everything I see, and use the strong points of every argument to open the eyes of my students.

Do you think bowling for columbine is a good documentary for me to do my essay on?^_^?
I would think that a Professor of Sociology would know better than to think this movie is anything but liberal propaganda, but obviously he doesnt.

Michael Moore is not concerned with truth at all. He made his name in a documentary called "Roger and Me" where he shows himself trying to get a meeting with the CEO of GM by asking random people going into work. Of course they treat him like the dumbass that he is and he puts that on camera.

He doesnt include the scene where Roger actually does meet with him, instead he prefers to give the impression that GM is a heartless corporation and the CEO hides from the average american.

The rest of his "documentaries" are more of the same.

Don't believe everything your teachers tell you, many times they are just trying to advance their own agenda...
Reply:If you have to do it on something current, I suppose. I would think that many students would be doing it on that.

There are soooo many great documentaries about different subjects....is there any rule on what the topic is? Sociology?

History?
Reply:That movie is not 100% accurate. Micheal Moore doesn't claim to be accurate, (in fact sometimes he tells some major lies), he just wants to get people talking about issues. If you do an essay on that movie, it would be balanced by talking about the critics of the movie as well.
Reply:ask your teacher first.

Some love that stuff, some hate it.
