Since the Virginia tech shootings, I have developed a fear of going to school. The VT shootings brought back memories of Columbine. At the time I was too little to completely understand what happened, or why it happened (come to think of it, I still don't understand why it happened). Columbine sparked an interest in me that I have been researching. I can't even imagine what the students in the cafeteria and library were thinking at the time, or what they were feeling. Thank God the propane bombs didn't go off!
First question: Does anyone fear going to school? Does anyone feel anxious when thinking about what kind of evil exists in our society?
Second question: Patrick Ireland survived the Columbine shooting by rescuing himself out of a library window. I vaguely remember seeing that, or hearing about it, and was wondering if anyone has a link to see the incredible rescue. I don't mean any offense so please don't criticize me for this.
Columbine and Virginia tech?
I completely understand your fear, as i was sitting in my pysch class the other day, i looked around the room, thinking wow anyone of these people could be planning something like the VT shootings. Its a scary thought, your suppose to feel safe at school and school is suppose to be a place of learning and peace. The world is getting more and more evil=(
Don't fear sweety, keep your trust and faith in God(or whatever your religion teaches) and know that you will be safe at school, dont miss out on your education=)
Reply:I had a fear of going to school thinkin the same thing. i was only 8 when it happened but ok bye Report It
Reply:columbine was more scary bcuz they were super insane they wanted to blow up the school and kill up too 500 students Report It
Reply:I don't fear going to school because there's never been a school-shooting in South Korea, but that's probably because we banned guns till the age of a billion or something.
Reply:Now missy, no playing hooky, excuses like that don't work with me.
Reply:umm its a irrational fear first of all...cause see death just comes so does all the bad stuff in life... i mean you could be walking on the road and a buss could hit you.. you could slip from your stairs or maybe a earthquake could knock your house down ( godforbid any of theses things happpen ofcourse and they probably might not) but they're always that scary chance and if we STOP doin things cause of that scary chance we might not have a life to live at all.. you cant be scared cause if you are you're just letting the BAD ppl win...and I HOPE nothing like that ever happens to you or any other people again.. may god bless and save us!
Reply:Your feelings can be appreciated. School is suppose to be a safe zone and those 2 tragedies are examples that no place is truly secure. I don't mean to scare you or be sarcastic, but that's a fact of life. The only thing you can do is just be aware of your environment/area. I don't mean go paranoid.
No - I worry more about getting in car accidents. Evil is evil, evil causes harm in many forms.
Reply:i fear going to school, for tests. not because of getting shot.
Reply:For da' 1st question, if there are no bullies or gangsters, definitely no. Or else most probably, yes! For second question, oh gosh I don't know. Columbine tragedy are different from Virginia Tech incident. For Columbine incident, the murderers were also fans of a M-rated game entitled "DOOM" while Cho from the Virginia Tech incident was a loner, yet he was a fan of wrestling. He killed 32 innocent lives.

I was a sophomore at Virginia Tech when the shooting happened. I was on the bus when the second shooting happened and for other reasons I had PTSD (Post-traumatic Stress Disorder) for months after. After I got help with the PTSD I have learned to not let myself get anxious about what could happen in any situation. I think you should talk to a counselor about your anxiety. It would probably make you feel better.
